Christina Lindhout | Kelly Korfhage

Christina Lindhout and Kelly Korfhage play pivotal roles in the Creative Destruction collective, joining forces with artist Corrie Slawson, law professor Dr. Dalindyebo Shabalala, and sustainability journalist Marc Lefkowitz. The collective, rooted in Joseph Schumpeter's economic concept of "Creative Destruction," aims to depict the interconnectedness of environmental degradation, trade, economic theories, and wealth distribution through a 35-minute classical ballet.

The finished form of Creative Destruction incorporates real, sculptural, and store-bought objects, weaving narratives around six commodities: Sugar, Bananas, Coffee, Timber, Oil & Minerals, and Beef. Emphasizing the interaction between dancers and objects, the ballet strives to convey complex theories to a broader audience. The project secured a Satellite Fund grant from SPACES Art Gallery and the Andy Warhol Foundation, with specific support from Akron Soul Train for the choreographic aspect.

Beyond their involvement in the collective, Lindhout and Korfhage collaborated on "FEAST: a ballet," a 32-minute mixed-media exploration of human consumption premiering online on November 27, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. The ballet integrates visual art, dance, and film to unveil the hidden world of supply chains and the emotions they evoke. Additionally, an installation version of FEAST will be on view at Akron Soul Train from Nov 25 to Dec 23, 2020.
