Atefeh Farajolahzadeh

Atefeh Farajolahzadeh, in her artist statement, expresses that her work is propelled by personal experiences as an immigrant, navigating the state of suspension between the new place and her country of origin. The longing from this experience motivates her to explore the city, countryside, and nature in search of a grounding place.

The outcome of this journey manifests as a collection of both abstract and representational photos and videos. Farajolahzadeh's photography establishes a psychological space mirroring the inner state of her mind and emotions. It effectively translates and transforms the landscapes of her imagination by capturing light, color, and movement. Each photograph gains meaning in combination with others, creating an experience that positions the viewer between the realms of reality and dream, consciousness and subconsciousness, the familiar and the unknown.

In her artistic approach, Farajolahzadeh emphasizes that while still images facilitate immediate interaction, the video format requires viewers to sit and spend time with the work. Her intention is to engage them with the experience of being in-between in a more immersive manner.

Her new work will be exhibited April 13 - May 21, 2022.
