Join the artistic journey! Akron Soul Train invites you to be a part of Michael Boyd Roman's upcoming portrait series, showcased from August 28 to October 5, 2024. Seeking subjects for his captivating artworks, Roman will be stationed at East Avenue Market and Gallery, equipped with a mobile photography studio. He eagerly awaits the participation of Akron's vibrant community members to gather reference photos, enriching his ties to the city while crafting a compelling collection that celebrates the representation of marginalized individuals of color in traditional gallery spaces.

Michael Boyd Roman's art intricately captures the inherent elegance of contemporary Black lives, seamlessly blending elements of hip-hop, urban culture, and nods to art history and religious symbolism. Through his work, Roman presents images of divine Black beauty, offering uplifting and spiritually resonant depictions that challenge prevailing historical narratives surrounding the modern Black experience. Throughout his residency at Akron Soul Train, Roman is committed to expanding his visual repertoire, exploring themes of spiritual transcendence and integrating iconography from a spectrum of indigenous belief systems worldwide.
