About the event
Join us for an inspiring evening of art and reflection at our Opening Reception on November 10, from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. This special event will showcase the thought-provoking works of two exceptional artists, Raja Belle Freeman and Debra DeGregorio, whose creations delve into profound themes that resonate with our shared human experiences.
Raja Belle Freeman presents "Consider This Your Trigger Warning," an evocative exploration of the pressing issue of police brutality. Through her powerful poetry, Raja sheds light on the desensitization of the media to the destruction of people of color and the seeming disposability of black and brown bodies. Her poem, "A Note on Trigger Warnings at the Beginning of Poems," serves as the heartbeat of this exhibit. Raja ingeniously combines visual art elements in the gallery, employing a play of red and blue lights that reveal different words and images under each color. This striking technique invites viewers to confront their perspectives and critically dialogue about this crucial issue.
Debra DeGregorio's "co≈rrelate" exhibition takes us on a journey through the intricate web of our connections and disconnections with the environment and community. Debra's personal work, characterized by vibrant colors and shapes, explores her own experiences in relation to these themes. However, for this exhibit, she has opened the doors to the community, collecting anonymous shares from individuals and groups about their experiences of closeness, belonging, attachment, or detachment. These shared stories will become an integral part of her artwork, woven with shapes and lines, forming a tapestry of shared experiences. Debra's hope is that viewers will see reflections of themselves in these stories, fostering a stronger sense of belonging and connectedness to our community. "co≈rrelate" invites us to contemplate the intricate threads that tie us to our surroundings and to one another. co≈rrelate is generously sponsored by HFS Wealth Advisors.
